Your small contribution can save life of Narasimha!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on May 19, 2017

Dear All

As you all know, our brother Narsimha, a fellow navodayan from JNV Medak (1991-98), met with tragic accident two years ago which resulted in amputation of his leg and an infection in kidneys, lungs and spinal cord. He is from poor, agriculture dependent family and is father of three kids. His brother died recently in another unfortunate incident who was the sole earner and financial supporter of his family.

Inherently, we know we are navodayans and we have been designed to live for something greater than ourselves. Our greatest successes in life are often found in helping others. Narasimha needs our help in order to get better treatment and continue supporting his family. It will be a shame to see a navodayan lose his life due to lack of money. So, please come forward and join hands together to help him survive in whatever way you can and your support will give hope to him and his family. We truly appreciate your help and efforts in helping Narasimha!

Someone has rightly said that “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something”. It is in fact the collective effort of everyone to make small contributions with a lot of heart. Little efforts count, and you don’t have to be concerned about making small contribution as everyone’ small contribution will collectively be a big one. And it is the effort that counts!!!

Some donations have come to the account of Rajkishor and Narasimha while some of have donated through other channels including Milaap. Additionally, the details of contribution made till now are given below:

We request all our JNV Alumni, family and friends to help raise the minimum required amount of Rupees 500,000 to meet his treatment costs.  At the same time, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have been supporting this cause.

Navodayans, We require some Introspection!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on June 30, 2016

Dear All,

I would like to bring to the notice of my Navodaya brothers and sisters a few things here for self-appraisal. Its not that I am against anybody nor am I trying to demean anyone here. This is just my view and I always have been working this way. I am not follower of anyone, but I try to evaluate the right way, taking guidance wherever necessary, and propose the same for everyone else. Seeing the present state of Navodayans, I would like to talk about a few things here.

I have always felt that my navodaya family is doing something different which makes us feel proud and it gives us a sense of satisfaction but seeing few recent activities…it does not give me any pride nor do I appreciate such things. Pardon me if anybody is getting hurt reading this post. I am happy if anyone among you does any kind of activities for uplifting a navodayan’s life and I really admire such kinds of activities. But I discourage activities meant for momentary pleasures as they are not going to be helpful for our family in any way. If anybody is earning enough money, please value that money and invest it to help others rather just going to any five or seven star hotels to have alumni meet. We have such beautiful and large campuses in front of which five or seven star hotels have no value. At personal level you are free to do so. No one will object you…but our vision is getting diluted and I feel that we are lacking the guidance and going on the wrong track.

Secondly, the news of my brothers and sisters fighting with each other over petty issues and getting divided is also disheartening. The vision of Navodaya has National Integration as one of its pillars, and our conduct needs to be in consonance with our vision. Our opinions may differ, but the sense of being related needs to continue. So, here we require some introspection!

Hence I propose a few things here:

  1. We are all aware that JNV works to select talented rural children as the target group and attempts to provide them with quality education. Keeping this in view, we need to organize our get-togethers and other activities in a simple but profound manner and that too in our own campuses so that as many students as possible can get benefited and feel inspired.
  2. We need to work on our mutual relationships so that we work in an integrated manner, rather than getting divided as we have been taught to work for national integrity and this has been the vision of entire Navodaya.
  3. We need to expand our activities to other needy children of the society, and not restrict ourselves to only Navodayans. So our activities will be by Navodayans but for the entire Nation.
  4. We have a huge manpower, but we need to devise ways to utilize our potential in the right direction, rather than spoiling it over our own conflicts!
  5. We can make a team of guardians made up of experienced teachers/ principals/ commissioners/ deputy commissioners who will keep guiding us and evaluating our performance from time to time. For example: Nageshwar Rao sir, Rama Rao sir, Ramchandra sir, Ashok Shukla sir, Girish sir, Ali sir, D K Modi sir and many more…
  6. We can invite eminent personalities of the society for giving talk to our team which will not only enthuse them but also make us dream big for the society and nation.

It is only a proposal from me. You may agree or disagree with me over these points, and hence I invite suggestions from you for open discussion.

Help Suresh fight cancer!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on June 28, 2016

Dear All,

On behalf of Shahnawaz and Satyajeet, I am sharing this here. Please “Don’t take” this as another forwarded message or wasted propaganda… Help if you can… Please donate for him…students may also help him by donating some amounts of their pocket money.

My name is Mohammed Shahnawaz, a childhood friend of Suresh. I, on behalf of him and our JNV school alumni group, have created this campaign . This month he has been diagnosed with blood cancer (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a deadly type of blood cancer and without regular treatment one cannot survive.

Suresh is a migrant from Bihar’s one of the flood-ravaged backward region and a small time employee in a private firm at Ludhiana. He is a father of sweety (6 year old daughter) and Satyam (4 year old son). The total household income is Rupees 15000 per month and with this money his family can not bear the costly treatment of regular chemotherapy. His school (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya) alumni group have mobilized the initial costs and resources. He has been admitted to SPS Apolo in Ludhiana for initial chemo. Though he has been shifted to more affordable AIIMS,New Delhi couple of days back but his family is struggling hard to get a bed at the hospital. Doctor is anticipating initial treatment cost of rupees 7,00,000 and in this kind of cases this may go up to Rupees 20,00,000. His family and school alumni group has been trying hard to arrange for the funds. The only option left for him now is to ask for your help.

Your support and Contribution will help him to fight this deadly diseases and return happiness on faces Sweety and Satyam.

Help Suresh fight cancer!
We will keep you updated with the progress. We are sharing a link: A message from Suresh to his school friends!
We desperately want all to donate to save Suresh’s life. Even the donation equivalent to a packet of cigarette matters. We are sharing the link: Help Suresh to fight Cancer…Thanks and Regards,
Shahnawaz and Satyajeet

Kindly contribute to save a family…!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on March 17, 2016

Dear All,

I would like to mention about one of our brothers named Rupesh Kumar from J.N.V Katihar of 2008-2015 batch. He was preparing for IIT JEE, and qualified for NIT last year. But he dropped it and is preparing for IIT JEE again. He has been a sincere and laborious student throughout.

The economic background of Rupesh is not good. His elder brother (whose monthly income is about 5.5 Thousand) has been the only source of income to his family, and most of his income was dedicated to Rupesh’s study (about 4 Thousand per month). Very unfortunately, last Saturday Rupesh’s brother met with a major accident in which his head was badly damaged and thigh fractured. He is currently admitted in PARAMOUNT Hospital PVT, Siliguri. A Major operation has been done and still the treatment is continuing, while he is still unconscious. The expenditure per day at the hospital is about 30 thousand rupees, and until now huge money has been spent. So it is not possible to save a family from this worst situation without our economic support. To help, we on behalf of AINAA, would like to request you to please come forward and help the family financially as much as you can. We all would be very much grateful for this kind act.

For contribution, the account details are:

Let’s strengthen each other by joining our hands…!!!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on September 25, 2015

Dear Navodayans,

We are able to see that there are many navodayans who are trying to work for our lovely navodaya and alumni. It is very nice to see this. But at the same time, I would like to mention that we need to stand together in this effort. We have spent seven bright golden years of our life at Navodaya, and we used to sing a prayer that said: हम स्वराज्य की रिचा नवल, भारत की नवलय हों; नव सूर्योदय, नव चंद्रोदय, हमी नवोदय हों!! And certainly this was not meant to live a life where we feel divided with our own brothers and sisters.

We are not working for power or position here, but rather for a noble cause. If anybody has any political agenda, I think this is not the right venue for this purpose. We need to work selflessly for our brothers and sisters, and then only we can make a sustainable contribution for the Navodayans. We can imbibe only those qualities in our juniors which we are able to live up to ourselves. We are the guides for our juniors, and hence we need to be very responsible in our efforts. We certainly do not want a family (I am talking of JNV family) where people stand divided, but rather where people are working harmoniously. Hence, ensuring harmony is the baseline of all such efforts that we make for the society.

Just give a sincere thought to it, and see if this is something that you would really like to be, whether you will really feel happy being divided. If not, we need to dispel our ego, and join together. Remember that we are setting a trend by our actions. Just think what will happen if our juniors too start working separately? Will we ever be able to fulfill our goal this way? I recall the poem written by one of my lovely sisters, Shweta Sharma, and I find it quite befitting here:

Come on, join hands as it is
Time to rewind the grand old days,
With new energy and enthusiasm
And refreshing charming new ways

We want to listen to
Your plans and ideas bubbling
And you can always tell us about
Something good or even troubling

Great things are shaped by
Steps simple and small
And to make a great deal occur,
We need participation of you all

Together we would bring on
Fun, activities and serious talk
We promise to hold your hand
And be with you in life’s every walk

And we are sure you would do the same
After all we strengthen each other
So let’s join hands and put in efforts
To move the association further

Together we can serve the society
In whatever way we deem fit
Linking the small steps together
And walk hand in hand without conflict

We should stand up and act now
As gone past the time to think
And we have the ability and will
To create magic in a blink

By: Shweta Sharma (JNV Jojawar, Pali)

Can’t we all think this way? And join our hands together. Hami Navoday Hon…!!!

Navodayans : A Call for Coordinators!!!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on September 6, 2015

Hi Friends,

Some time back, we started to invite our alumni to act as coordinators for our loving Navodaya Family: Coordinators Invitation. In continuation with it, We would like to send a message here.

Those who want to take the responsibility of representing their school, please let us know. Two persons from each school can take this responsibility to coordinate with their school. This will enable the continuity of the activities in case any coordinator is unable to make himself / herself available to fulfill the responsibilities. If the coordinators belong to different batches, preferentially with a difference of three batches, it will help us to cover all the batches easily.

For proper implementation of this plan, we would like to have some commitment from you. The coordinators/volunteers need to be active after assuming this responsibility. I think we all agree to this. If we do not get the needed response from any coordinator/volunteer, then we will send a reminder mail expecting some prompt response. But somehow, if because of some other commitment, any coordinator is not able to give one’s precious time, then he/she will need to delegate the assigned task to some other backup volunteer. In the worst case, we might need to remove our friend from coordinators list and take the nominations for the same again. We may sound little strict here, but if we want to do something good, we need to have zeal and readiness. If anybody has any question or any doubt, kindly let us know. We would try to clarify. You are most welcome here.

Now, let me list out the expectations from our coordinators:

  1. The alumni (coordinators) representing their school will make coordination between (a) other alumni of the school (b) the present students & (c) Principal & Teachers of their school. They will visit their school regularly, at least once in a year and keep others updated about the particular Navodaya. In case, they are unable to go, they may send representatives who are well aware of the requirements there.
  2. They must be willing to give 5 hours/week of their quality time in interacting with other alumni representatives in person or through internet/ phone calls.
  3. They will undertake the responsibility of coordinating with other alumni of their school for the events, and meets organized by the alumni, after communicating them in due time.
  4. They shall raise funds on behalf of their school alumni in case of serious needs. And in case of severe necessity, they may contribute some small amount for the welfare of students themselves.
  5. You may suggest/propagate/implement/communicate any good idea about/to/by Active Alumni from other JNVs too.

Looking forward to hear from you. You may kindly put your name here or E-mail to rewasmriti@gmail.com. Suggestions on any points referred above are valuable to us.

Proper and clear Communication will prevent any misunderstandings and will help us work together efficiently!!

Everybody is welcome to learn and serve with us! If you have any question/suggestion/concern, Please always feel free to let us know!
