Navodayans, We require some Introspection!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on June 30, 2016

Dear All,

I would like to bring to the notice of my Navodaya brothers and sisters a few things here for self-appraisal. Its not that I am against anybody nor am I trying to demean anyone here. This is just my view and I always have been working this way. I am not follower of anyone, but I try to evaluate the right way, taking guidance wherever necessary, and propose the same for everyone else. Seeing the present state of Navodayans, I would like to talk about a few things here.

I have always felt that my navodaya family is doing something different which makes us feel proud and it gives us a sense of satisfaction but seeing few recent activities…it does not give me any pride nor do I appreciate such things. Pardon me if anybody is getting hurt reading this post. I am happy if anyone among you does any kind of activities for uplifting a navodayan’s life and I really admire such kinds of activities. But I discourage activities meant for momentary pleasures as they are not going to be helpful for our family in any way. If anybody is earning enough money, please value that money and invest it to help others rather just going to any five or seven star hotels to have alumni meet. We have such beautiful and large campuses in front of which five or seven star hotels have no value. At personal level you are free to do so. No one will object you…but our vision is getting diluted and I feel that we are lacking the guidance and going on the wrong track.

Secondly, the news of my brothers and sisters fighting with each other over petty issues and getting divided is also disheartening. The vision of Navodaya has National Integration as one of its pillars, and our conduct needs to be in consonance with our vision. Our opinions may differ, but the sense of being related needs to continue. So, here we require some introspection!

Hence I propose a few things here:

  1. We are all aware that JNV works to select talented rural children as the target group and attempts to provide them with quality education. Keeping this in view, we need to organize our get-togethers and other activities in a simple but profound manner and that too in our own campuses so that as many students as possible can get benefited and feel inspired.
  2. We need to work on our mutual relationships so that we work in an integrated manner, rather than getting divided as we have been taught to work for national integrity and this has been the vision of entire Navodaya.
  3. We need to expand our activities to other needy children of the society, and not restrict ourselves to only Navodayans. So our activities will be by Navodayans but for the entire Nation.
  4. We have a huge manpower, but we need to devise ways to utilize our potential in the right direction, rather than spoiling it over our own conflicts!
  5. We can make a team of guardians made up of experienced teachers/ principals/ commissioners/ deputy commissioners who will keep guiding us and evaluating our performance from time to time. For example: Nageshwar Rao sir, Rama Rao sir, Ramchandra sir, Ashok Shukla sir, Girish sir, Ali sir, D K Modi sir and many more…
  6. We can invite eminent personalities of the society for giving talk to our team which will not only enthuse them but also make us dream big for the society and nation.

It is only a proposal from me. You may agree or disagree with me over these points, and hence I invite suggestions from you for open discussion.

दुनिया की भीड़ में क्यों खो रहा, मिलेगा कुछ भी न फल जो बो रहा…

Kindly contribute to save a family…!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on March 17, 2016

Dear All,

I would like to mention about one of our brothers named Rupesh Kumar from J.N.V Katihar of 2008-2015 batch. He was preparing for IIT JEE, and qualified for NIT last year. But he dropped it and is preparing for IIT JEE again. He has been a sincere and laborious student throughout.

The economic background of Rupesh is not good. His elder brother (whose monthly income is about 5.5 Thousand) has been the only source of income to his family, and most of his income was dedicated to Rupesh’s study (about 4 Thousand per month). Very unfortunately, last Saturday Rupesh’s brother met with a major accident in which his head was badly damaged and thigh fractured. He is currently admitted in PARAMOUNT Hospital PVT, Siliguri. A Major operation has been done and still the treatment is continuing, while he is still unconscious. The expenditure per day at the hospital is about 30 thousand rupees, and until now huge money has been spent. So it is not possible to save a family from this worst situation without our economic support. To help, we on behalf of AINAA, would like to request you to please come forward and help the family financially as much as you can. We all would be very much grateful for this kind act.

Navodayans : A Call for Coordinators!!!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on September 6, 2015

Hi Friends,

Some time back, we started to invite our alumni to act as coordinators for our loving Navodaya Family: Coordinators Invitation. In continuation with it, We would like to send a message here.

Those who want to take the responsibility of representing their school, please let us know. Two persons from each school can take this responsibility to coordinate with their school. This will enable the continuity of the activities in case any coordinator is unable to make himself / herself available to fulfill the responsibilities. If the coordinators belong to different batches, preferentially with a difference of three batches, it will help us to cover all the batches easily.

For proper implementation of this plan, we would like to have some commitment from you. The coordinators/volunteers need to be active after assuming this responsibility. I think we all agree to this. If we do not get the needed response from any coordinator/volunteer, then we will send a reminder mail expecting some prompt response. But somehow, if because of some other commitment, any coordinator is not able to give one’s precious time, then he/she will need to delegate the assigned task to some other backup volunteer. In the worst case, we might need to remove our friend from coordinators list and take the nominations for the same again. We may sound little strict here, but if we want to do something good, we need to have zeal and readiness. If anybody has any question or any doubt, kindly let us know. We would try to clarify. You are most welcome here.

Now, let me list out the expectations from our coordinators:

  1. The alumni (coordinators) representing their school will make coordination between (a) other alumni of the school (b) the present students & (c) Principal & Teachers of their school. They will visit their school regularly, at least once in a year and keep others updated about the particular Navodaya. In case, they are unable to go, they may send representatives who are well aware of the requirements there.
  2. They must be willing to give 5 hours/week of their quality time in interacting with other alumni representatives in person or through internet/ phone calls.
  3. They will undertake the responsibility of coordinating with other alumni of their school for the events, and meets organized by the alumni, after communicating them in due time.
  4. They shall raise funds on behalf of their school alumni in case of serious needs. And in case of severe necessity, they may contribute some small amount for the welfare of students themselves.
  5. You may suggest/propagate/implement/communicate any good idea about/to/by Active Alumni from other JNVs too.

Looking forward to hear from you. You may kindly put your name here or E-mail to rewasmriti@gmail.com. Suggestions on any points referred above are valuable to us.

Proper and clear Communication will prevent any misunderstandings and will help us work together efficiently!!

Everybody is welcome to learn and serve with us! If you have any question/suggestion/concern, Please always feel free to let us know!

Regards.

Let’s join hands along with hearts…!

Posted by Rewa Smriti on September 26, 2013

Dear All,

As many of you know that Sopan’s Cancer treatment is going on and he recently got shifted to Mahaveer Cancer Sansthan, Patna from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. With a heavy heart we regret to inform you that his condition is not good. Today when I talked to Sopan, I felt that he has lost his hopes. It isn’t the cancer that caught him; it is the pain which he is going through. If money had only been the concern, it would have been taken care of, but if the concern lies in the lost hopes, it’s hard  to revive.

Till now your financial support helped him keep his hope alive. The amount donated by you in the first two phases (from March-May and June-August) will last for few more days. Below is the summary details of the transactions and the further details of the money spent by Sopan till date.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Donation Details of two phase

Request you all to come forward again to rekindle his hopes to fight back. This time we would request you all not only to donate money, but write him a message as well to help him regain his strength. We will send all your messages to him by any mode of communication (E-mail, post …etc.) and money will be transferred as done earlier. At this point in time somehow this quote came as a flash to my mind –

“By what you get, you make a living; what you give, however, makes a life.” ― Arthur Asche

Our Alumnus, Mr. Sopan Roy, from JNV Katihar is suffering from cancer and his treatment is going on at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. His financial situation is very poor. Please donate to save a life…

Posted by Rewa Smriti on June 18, 2013

Dear All,

We are grateful to everyone who felt for Sopan, and helped him at this juncture of his life…

Please be informed that on (10th June, 2013), an amount of INR 10,000 has been transferred to Sopan Roy‘s bank account through online banking using NEFT facility. Same has been confirmed by Sopan over the phone.

The first wave of donation is over. Our journey so far was blessed by God in our endeavor to save the life of Sopan Roy. The contribution made by you all in First Wave is Rs 65,030 for his cancer treatment till now. Last contribution was received on 13th May’13. To present complete details, we have mentioned the donors’ name as well after seeking the permission from the donors.

Donations Received for Sopan

And the money we have transferred to him for his treatment Rs 57,530, till last week in first wave. Below is the summary details of the transaction:

Total Contribution

It is now time for the second wave of donation. As discussed with Sopan on Saturday over the phone, the immediate requirement is Rs 20,000 within a month and additional INR 20,000 within 2 months. So we target 20K for short term (by 15th July 2013) and another 20K by 30th August’13. Please join hands, and serve the mankind. Here are the account details where you can transfer money online or offline.

Our Alumnus, Mr. Sopan Roy, from JNV Katihar is suffering from cancer and his treatment is going on at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. His financial situation is very poor. Friends! Unexpectedness is a superpower. Cancer cannot take away hope and we must never lose our hope. As our hope is well-founded in our faith that we believe with all our hearts! We need to come together again with all our prayers and his blessings for more contributions to make Sopan’s journey of life longer. As you all know that we are trying to save a life, which is in the grave clutches of cancer, this would be a great contribution from our side to humanity. If we can save one life by contributing a meager amount of money, nothing would be like that. By doing this, time will fill us in million folds.

donations help

Let’s hold each other’s hands to show generosity by contributing as per our capacity. No matter how big or small, donations are what enable us to save lives.

Also if you can involve people other than yourself, it would be a great help…

Dear Navodayans,

Request you all please register yourself on http://www.jnvalumni.com/register.php to connect to JNVAlumni network all over India. This will not only give you a chance to serve the society but also an assurance that you will never be alone. Connecting to probably the biggest alumni network in India has its benefits, and with all that Navodaya has given us, this is the least we can do!

jnvalumni

As ever, we are going to organize some activities in different regions soon. We would love to have your participation on all fronts. We need your expertise to make the activities successful. Listening to your ideas and plans bubbling with energy is our pleasure. And working with you reminds us of our grand old days!

You probably know that great things are shaped by simple and small things. So think and act upon, as someone has rightly said “a small good deed is better than the grandest good intention”. So the time has come to come together and strengthen each other. We believe there are countless ways to serve the society and there are lots of ways you can get involved in…So let’s all explore the countless ways, by countless people, in countless societies. Let’s join hands together to serve the society…!!

That for me summed up the whole motivational movement in a nutshell. Doing something, no matter how insignificant or how small it is, is the first step to gaining success in anything, rather than merely thinking, pondering or intending to do it! Somebody once said: –

“You can get anything you want if you just help other people to get what they want!”

I just shared my thoughts with my loving sister Shweta. When thoughts get into rhythm, nature gifts us with matching voices. Shweta further beautified this message with words and gave it a shape of a poem which is quoted below:

Come on, join hands as it is
Time to rewind the grand old days,
With new energy and enthusiasm
And refreshing charming new ways

We want to listen to
Your plans and ideas bubbling
And you can always tell us about
Something good or even troubling

Great things are shaped by
Steps simple and small
And to make a great deal occur,
We need participation of you all

Together we would bring on
Fun, activities and serious talk
We promise to hold your hand
And be with you In life’s every walk

And we are sure you would do the same
After all we strengthen each other
So let’s join hands and put in efforts
To move the association further

Together we can serve the society
In whatever way we deem fit
Linking the small steps together
And walk hand in hand without conflict

We should stand up and act now
As gone past the time to think
And we have the ability and will
To create magic in a blink
